Junior Analyst

At Water Footprint Implementation (WFI), we assist organisations in assessing, understanding, and implementing measures to reduce and offset their water footprints. Starting from the 1st of March 2026, we are seeking a Junior Analyst to join our Cape Town office and support our growing team in delivering water footprint and water stewardship initiatives across South Africa and internationally.

This is an exciting opportunity for recent graduates passionate about water management, nature-based solutions, sustainability, and environmental research. Working with a diverse team of local and international colleagues, you will contribute to meaningful projects that create a positive environmental impact while developing your professional skills in water footprint accounting and analysis.

Your Role

You will support senior analysts and the technical lead in delivering data-driven tasks, water footprint compensation project calculations, and water footprint accounting reports for both local and international clients. The scope of your role is adaptable, and we offer opportunities to engage in various projects within the company, ranging from research and technical analysis to client support and project development.

Your Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting Water Footprint Assessments and supporting clients through data input and output analysis;
  • Supporting the team in the development of Water Footprint Accounting datasets;
  • Researching new methods and staying informed on emerging best practices in water footprint and water stewardship;
  • Developing unique case studies that support the WFI staff’s work;
  • Applying the water footprint method to various ESG reporting frameworks;
  • Optional: Assisting the team with business development and other tasks.

Your Profile

We are looking for a sustainability enthusiast, proactive colleague, and recent graduate with the following profile:

Essential Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering, Water Resources, Environmental Sciences, Sustainable Agriculture, or related field;
  • 0 to 2 years of professional experience;
  • Demonstrable skills and experience in contributing to projects;
  • Strong proficiency with Excel;
  • Strong understanding of water quality assessment and hydrological assessments;
  • Strong quantitative and experimental research skills;
  • Experience in a combination of the following: nature-based solutions (NbS) treatment systems, environmental monitoring, hydrological or environmental modelling;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • South African citizenship or eligibility to work in South Africa (i.e., in possession of a valid work permit).

Advantageous Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Water Resources, Environmental Sciences, or related field;
  • Demonstrable knowledge in Life Cycle Assessments;
  • Familiarity with the water footprint method;
  • Knowledge of water stewardship guidelines and frameworks;
  • Knowledge of GIS, environmental data analysis, or modelling software (MODFLOW, SWMM, QGIS);
  • Familiarity with the SDGs, especially SDG 6, 11, 12, 13 and 17.
