After extensive development and testing, the renewed Water Footprint Assessment Tool is finally here! This release is a big first step in achieving our ambition of bringing ‘water’ to the global ESG reporting scene. 

This release brings powerful new features: you can now not only explore countries, river basins, and raw products, but also map and analyze your own business operations. With these capabilities, you gain deeper insights into your unique supply chain, a better understanding of water use, and clearer visibility into the sustainability of your water management practices. 

With this tool, we aim to support companies in shaping their water story and advancing their sustainability journey. In a rapidly evolving ESG reporting landscape, the tool offers up-to-date, academically grounded data that can be applied across a wide range of ESG reporting frameworks. 

For companies just starting with sustainability reporting, the tool is especially valuable in conducting materiality assessments – helping determine whether water should be recognized as a material topic on the sustainability agenda. The tool is also designed to be compatible with the LEAP approach of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), whose principles are increasingly reflected in materiality assessment and reporting frameworks worldwide.

Until November 1st, the tool is available free of charge. After this introductory period, access will shift to a fair-paid service, offering tailor-made reports, enhanced data privacy, and advanced functionalities to further support your organization’s sustainability goals.
