Compensation through wastewater treatment with the BluElephant technology

To improve access to clean and sufficient water for the Palestinian people and accelerate solving some of the most urgent water challenges, an alternative small-scale decentralized and mobile Wastewater Treatment Plant is developed by a public-private partnership of Dutch organisations; the BluElephant. By treating wastewater and making alternative water sources available for agricultural or other types of uses, the BluElephant technology can also be a method for water footprint compensation.

In September 2022, three BluElephant installations have been officially launched in the West Bank and are currently running and monitored for treatment efficiency and for compensation potential. The methodology for compensation through wastewater treatment and the results of the pilot are Annexed to the Compensation Guidelines.
